Overview
Brent’s practice focuses on patent and trademark filings and related litigation. He also manages diverse patent and trademark portfolios for his corporate clients in the United States and around the world.
Patent + Trademark
Brent represents mid-size companies, Fortune 500 Companies, and Global Fortune 500 Companies in all aspects of intellectual property law. He has written more than five hundred patents and prosecuted over a thousand U.S. and foreign patents. He assists his clients with the following: patent preparation and prosecution; trademark preparation, strategies, and filings; transfer of domestic and international patent and trademark rights; licensing; and freedom to operate, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions. Brent also manages his clients’ IP portfolios worldwide. He has specific technological experience in the mechanical, electrical, and computer-related fields, addressing a broad range of technologies and inventions such as AI, singular devices, integrated solutions, network systems, applications, cloud-based systems, medical, dental, and veterinary equipment, pet toys and devices, and industrial equipment and machines.
Litigation + Arbitration
Brent represents clients in mediation and arbitration, as well as in litigation in state and federal courts. He enforces and defends all intellectual property rights in these forums, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, trade dress, and unfair competition claims.
Relevant Work Experience
Prior to becoming an attorney, Brent served as an Engineer in the United States Army Corp of Engineers and Army Reserve. After leaving the military, he worked for Merck Pharmaceuticals and then later became a registered patent agent.

Out + About
When he is not in the office, Brent enjoys spending time with his family, including his three grandchildren, traveling, and fly fishing. He has also coached high school football at Pomona High School, where he is affectionately known as “Papa John.”
