Halina’s law practice focuses on intellectual property law, licensing and technology transfer, government contracting, and business law.
Intellectual Property Law
Halina represents clients in the public and private sectors across a broad array of industries and technologies in all aspects of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, proprietary know how, and confidential information. She assists clients with the identification of inventions, invention disclosures, freedom to operate considerations, and patent filing strategies. She handles provisional and patent applications, patent prosecution, patent enforcement, and defense, and helps her clients develop patent portfolio strategies. Halina works with clients on initial searches on trademark use, trademark filings and prosecution, and trademark enforcement and defense. She also prepares copyright filings, IP procedures, and practices, proprietary information and data protection procedures and practices, and conducts IP audits and due diligence reviews.
Licensing + Technology Transfer
Halina is an accredited Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) for U.S. and international IP licensing transactions. She advises domestic and international clients on licensing strategies and terms for patent applications, issued patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and proprietary information and data. She also counsels clients on domestic and international technology, product, and service transactions. This work includes technology transfer, strategic business arrangements, and complex technology alliances, such as collaborative R&D, manufacturing, marketing, distribution, software, confidentiality, consulting, clinical trial, and material transfer agreements. Halina negotiates, reviews, and drafts license, tech transfer, and related agreements such as CRADAs, DUAs, ACTs, SRAs, SBIR, STA, 8(a), and Teaming Agreements. She has considerable experience with the federal technology transfer acts, including those applicable to university and federal labs. In addition, Halina is experienced with exclusive and non-exclusive arrangements and royalty arrangements.
Government Contracting
Halina represents clients in all aspects of state and federal government contracting. She assists them with government bids, RFPs, and teaming agreements, including those with IP concerns. She negotiates, reviews, and drafts government contracts, including supply and consulting contracts. Halina helps clients with GSA schedule matters and is experienced with FARs and DFARs (both mandatory and discretionary), specific agency directives, and terms for both prime contractors and subcontractors. She has represented clients, including 8(a) contractors, in government contracting matters with the Army, Air Force, CDC, DARPA, DOD, DOE, FAA, Homeland Security, Lawrence Livermore, Navy, NASA, NCAR, NIH, NREL, and Sandia Labs. She also advises clients regarding COTS products, purchase orders, and commercial license agreements.
General Business Law
Halina counsels her corporate clients on business law matters. She assists them with the choice of entity, business formation, and corporate governance documents. Halina negotiates, reviews, and drafts business contracts, such as assignments, board of directors, consulting, hiring, non-compete, non-disclosure, non-solicitation, proprietary rights (IP) ownership, and purchase agreements. In addition, she helps clients with term sheets, LOIs, and LOAs. She also advises clients on a variety of other business-related matters, including those concerning: app and software licenses and terms; building platforms, interactive platforms, and third-party platforms and uses; data processing, handling, and storage; domain names; payment security; privacy notices; on-site warranty and order terms; use of open source and public software licenses; use of third-party copyrighted material and trademarks; and websites.

Prior to entering private practice, Halina acquired in-house experience at Bell Laboratories, Storage Technology Corporation, and University Corporation for Atmospheric Research/National Center for Atmospheric Research.
She advises clients in a wide variety of industries, including the high-tech, biotech, hardware, software, internet, life sciences, energy, cosmetic, healthcare, medical, and pharmaceutical industries. Halina also represents clients in the cannabis and hemp industries, negotiating strategic alliances (both intra and interstate) and facilitating R&D collaborations. She assists these clients with licensing, grow and cultivation operations, processing operations (including SOPs), manufacturing facilities, marketing, and distribution activities. Halina also advises cannabis and hemp clients on insurance, taxes, labeling, FDA compliance, trash disposal, and website content.

Pro Bono
Halina provides pro bono legal services to 5430 Kids Tennis Foundation, a non-profit that focuses on teaching life and leadership skills to kids through tennis. These kids include elementary school children who never experienced tennis except through a school’s program with visiting tennis coaches, wheelchair tennis players who play on a local, national, and international level, and college-bound players who receive scholarships to play tennis at a university level who would not otherwise get a chance to do so but for this scholarship program.
Out + About
When she is not practicing law, Halina enjoys spending time with her golden retriever, playing tennis, and playing pickleball. She has a black belt in Karate and is a fan of local SCCA car racing. She gives back to her community through her work with 5430 Kids Tennis Foundation.
