Our Commitment to the Communities We Serve
BHGR has deep roots in the communities it serves. From Boulder and Denver to Southern California, our attorneys, paralegals, and staff are active participants in the places where we live and work. We volunteer, sit on local boards and commissions, and invest in solution-based efforts that support our community’s vitality economically, environmentally, and culturally, because we believe a great law firm isn’t defined only by the quality of its legal work, but also by the strength of its civic character.
Pro Bono and Reduced-Rate Legal Services
Our attorneys provide pro bono and reduced-rate legal services to indigent individuals and non-profit organizations on a case-by-case basis. We believe access to quality legal counsel should not be determined by the size of one’s wallet, and we are proud to put that belief into practice.
Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado
BHGR is a loyal, long-standing supporter of the Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado (LAF), which raises funds for Colorado Legal Services (CLS) — Colorado’s only statewide legal aid program. CLS provides free civil legal services to Coloradans who could not otherwise afford them, helping to stabilize families, prevent costly downstream consequences, and ensure that our most vulnerable neighbors have somewhere to turn. Partner Giovanni Ruscitti serves on LAF’s Board of Directors and the Boulder County Fundraising Committee, and BHGR makes an annual contribution to this vital cause. We are grateful for the work of everyone at LAF and CLS — their efforts are often life-changing for those in need.
Our Commitment to Environmental Stewardship
At BHGR, we believe that being a responsible firm means thinking beyond the present. The United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as meeting the needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own, and that principle guides how we think about our role in the world.
We have a vested interest in the future of our planet. Drawing on the expertise of our partners, team members, community leaders, and climate change experts, BHGR developed and adopted BHGR 2030, a comprehensive framework of short- and long-term sustainability initiatives designed to reduce our environmental footprint, educate our team and the communities we serve, and inspire meaningful change from the ground up. BHGR 2030 is overseen and implemented by our Sustainability Committee, which reports annually to the firm’s Management Committee and Partners on the status of current initiatives and future opportunities for change, both within and beyond the firm.
Our Sustainability Committee is led by Rudy Verner, who serves as the firm’s liaison to non-profit partners working to address the climate crisis. Rudy brings a strong record of civic environmental leadership to this role, including his service on the Board of Directors for Conservation Colorado and his participation in Protect Our Winters’ National Leadership Summit.
